NSW Ombudsman engages with communities across the Central Tablelands

Date posted:

From 23-26 February 2026, NSW Ombudsman staff visited Lithgow, Bathurst and Orange to connect with local communities and public sector workers, answer questions and share information about how we support people across NSW.

Throughout the week, staff hosted drop-in information stands at local libraries, community centres and schools. These informal sessions gave community members the opportunity to speak directly with our team, raise concerns and learn more about how to make a complaint or seek assistance.

In Bathurst, we met with First Nations community members at the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council alongside the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), and the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC). The visit provided an important opportunity to listen, build relationships, and strengthen collaboration between oversight agencies and Aboriginal communities.

The week concluded with NSW Ombudsman Paul Miller participating in a panel discussion at an ICAC-hosted Community Forum in Bathurst. The panel explored integrity, accountability and the role oversight agencies play in supporting the community.

We thank everyone who took the time to speak with us and share their experiences. Community engagement is an important part of our work, helping ensure our services remain accessible, responsive, and informed by the people we serve across all of NSW.
